Words of wisdom from sporting heroes

My son was over the moon today. One of his heroes, Luke Power from the Brisbane Lions AFL team, came to Master J’s school and spoke on assembly. Master J was full of stories to share with me about his hero (and how happy his Computer Tech teacher was today because he, too, is a huge fan of Luke Power and the rest of the Lions ).

The most powerful thing that Master J got out of this presentation was Luke’s favourite words of wisdom, as told to him by another famous sporting hero, basketballer Michael Jordan. "You miss 100% of the shots that you don’t take."

Think about it… if you don’t take that chance and shoot for the hoop, you are assured that you won’t get a goal. But if you try, well, maybe you will, maybe you won’t. But there’s a much higher chance of success than if you don’t try at all.

So I will add that to the ever-growing list of things my darling son has taught me and I now have Michael Jordan’s words of wisdom on my desk to constantly remind me of the importance of trying… of taking a chance.

Thank you for the reminder Luke, and for making my son’s day!
